Unboxing the MicroBT Whatsminer M60S
Here is how you will receive your MicroBT Whatsminer M60S — wrapped in a plastic bag and safely padded with thick foams in a typical carton box from Crypto Miner Bros.
The MicroBT Whatsminer M60S currently comes in two different looks. One is the same as the typical Whatsminer series, as shown in the following picture.
The other comes with a protective metal cover, as shown in the following picture.
The machine comes with a C-19 to C-20 cable to power the ASIC. Since crypto mining releases excess heat, these cables are ideal as they can withstand high temperatures.
Now, let’s move on to the actual setting up process of MicroBT Whatsminer M60S.
Step-by-step Guide for Setting Up the MicroBT Whatsminer M60S
1. Preparing the ASIC
Place your Whatsminer M60S in an aerated place, as the ASIC will release much heat. Plus, ensure you keep the miner on a flat surface with good air circulation.
You will need a specialized power infrastructure for ASIC miners as the miners will need high power. The regular North American power setup won’t work for any ASICs, including Whatsminer M60S.
So, ensure you get a 30 amps 240V circuit done at your home with the help of a certified electrician to run your MicroBT Whatsminer M60S. Next, you will need 30 amps 240V PDU.
Since the machine already comes with dedicated power cables, C-19 to C-20, you will just need a network cable for an ethernet connection, as Whatsminer M60S does not support Wi-Fi.
Ensure all plugs are tight and there are no loose connections. Now you are all set to start your Whatsminer M60S.
2. Configuring the ASIC
Once the power supply is on, you hear a loud noise, indicating the machine is running. The ethernet light will also be flickering.
Now you would need the IP address of your Whatsminer M60S. To get the IP address of the miner, you can choose any of the following steps:
You can use the free program software called Advance IP Scanner to get your miner’s IP address.
You can log in to your router and get the IP address.
3. Accessing the M60S via the Web Browser
As you enter the copied IP address in the browser, a window will appear asking for a username and password.
Sign in to the browser by giving “admin” as username and password. For all Whatsminer models, the default username and password is admin. However, in other models from different companies, the credentials may vary. You can reach us at info@www.cryptominerbros.com for assistance.
You can always change the default password by going to the System- Administration tab and changing the password.
The next step is to add the mining pool, worker’s name and password. You can do so by going to the configuration tab and selecting the miner configuration.
4. Adding the Mining Pool
Before adding the mining pool, you need a Bitcoin wallet to secure your rewards. Tangem, Ellipal Titan 2.0, and Trezor are recommended Bitcoin wallets. These are cold wallets, and you’re responsible for their private keys. It is more secure than using software wallets on your mobile or desktop.
Alternatively, you can download Bitcoin Core on your spare laptop, which you do not use for anything.
Once you have your Bitcoin wallet, it’s time to add the mining pool. You can check Mining Pool Stats to choose the mining pool to mine Bitcoin. Do your research and select the pool that best suits your mining preferences.
Rather than choosing top Bitcoin mining pools, it is highly advisable to choose the pool that has less than 50% network hash rate.
Now, let’s take ViaBTC for demonstration purposes. Firstly, sign up for the pool.
Once you sign up, you will see the dashboard of your pool account.
When you scroll down, you will find the mining pool details. You can copy that address and paste it on your Whatsminer M60S.
Next is the pool1 worker’s name. It is the account name you created for Viabtc separated by .worker’s name. For example, here rpm2023.m60s01.
Next, you must add the backup pool name, which you can find on the Whatsminer dashboard. In case, any of the pool goes down, you can mine on the other pool.
Once you enter all the information, hit the “save and apply button” at the bottom. It is ideal to reboot the system for accurate readings.
5. Start Mining Bitcoins
You can check your Whatsminer M60S status on its dashboard immediately.
MicroBT Whatsminer M60S Profitability
The profitability of any mining hardware depends on various factors, including the mining hardware’s hash rate, Bitcoin’s price, current mining trends, electricity costs in your country, crypto market trends, etc. Thus, one cannot predict the profitability of any mining hardware.
However, miners can evaluate the controllable things, like choosing the hardware with a higher hash rate and low power consumption, tracking Bitcoin’s price, and following the market trends. That will help them make informed mining decisions.
Above all, Bitcoin’s price will directly impact your Bitcoin mining profits. Thus, tracking Bitcoin’s past performance and price history becomes crucial. Moreover, cryptocurrencies are notoriously volatile, so following the cryptocurrency’s price is vital for miners before investing in any mining hardware.
Here is Bitcoin’s price history for the last year.
Bitcoin Mining Difficulties
The Bitcoin difficulty algorithm serves to stabilize the mining process by establishing a consistent timeframe for discovering new blocks. This algorithm continually modifies the difficulty level in response to real-time changes. For instance, when the network has few miners, the protocol decreases mining difficulty to expedite block discovery. Conversely, it raises difficulty levels when there’s an influx of miners.
Maintaining optimal mining difficulty is vital due to the decentralized nature of crypto mining, which operates independently of third-party control. If left unchecked, advanced mining equipment could lead to faster block discoveries, potentially centralizing the mining process and introducing unpredictability. While fluctuations in mining difficulty might impact profits, they serve as a safeguard against cyber threats aiming to compromise the blockchain network, thus ensuring the security of cryptocurrency transactions.
